During the year, the children attend school, study, learn. Through your generous donations, they have Hope For A Better Future Through Education!

Orphaned, homeless children alone cannot afford to attend school and purchase a uniform.

RFFA initiated the Orphan Rescue program in 2005 because we realized that school is not free in Africa! Orphaned children have no money to pay for the school fees, the school uniforms and shoes, school supplies, a mosquito net, some nutritional support, and other incidentals that are necessary to attend school. (For more details, go to the O.R.K. sub-category herein.) Furthermore, many of the government grants do not provide funding for education. Rotarians For Fighting AIDS is filling a vital, necessary gap in the one of the primary needs for these orphan children.

To support one child in school for one year, it costs $450 USD.

Across seven sub-Saharan countries, in urban and rural communities, RFFA works in conjunction with their Partner NGO’s (Non-Government professional public health organizations, such as Family Health International and HOPE worldwide) to provide vital educational support to the most vulnerable victims of the HIV/AIDS pandemic – parentless young children. The NGO Partner organization’s staff identifies the children in the communities who are most in need of support. The targeted countries are the following where RFFA has a committee to oversee the entire process: South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Kenya, Nigeria, and Cote d’Ivoire. The mandatory school fees are then paid to the schools, and the necessary school-related items are purchased against invoices. A final report and pictures are produced by our Partner Organization at the end of the disbursement (see below for example).

Who Oversees Orphan Rescue?

The RFFA Africa Country Chair and his committee receive the funds by wire from RFFA USA headquarters. Orphan Rescue funds can also be used to create a Matching Grant with The Rotary Foundation and, therefore, the funds are monitored by the Host Rotary Club as well as support from the RFFA Country Committee.) There is Rotarian oversight throughout the entire process. The RFFA Committee works in coordination with the NGO Partner organization to obtain the supplies and pay the fees. Rotarian assistance at every level is the key to making Orphan Rescue such an effective community based program.

How Am I Sure The Money Helps These Children?

A final report is written by the RFFA’s Partner Organization to RFFA. We post these reports (or partial reports) with pictures on the site on an ongoing basis so you can learn the results of how your funds are spent. A good example of one of these reports can be viewed right here: CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE REPORT.
