During RFFA's first year, we initiated a major international partnership called the African Network for Children Orphaned and at Risk ("ANCHOR").
The ANCHOR partnership brings together 4 unique entities; Rotarians For Fighting AIDS (RFFA), HOPE worldwide, The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation and Emory University's School of Public Health. ANCHOR equips and strengthens local communities' response to the HIV/Aids orphan crisis by developing physical and psychological support strategies for children.
USAID funds ($8.1 million) were granted to ANCHOR for projects designed to improve the well-being and protection of 146,000 orphans and vulnerable children in African countries. "Orphan Rescue" was announced at Rotary International's Centennial Convention in Chicago, June, 2005.
Across seven Sub-Saharan countries, in urban and rural communities, Rotarians For Fighting AIDS, Inc., through Anchor, provide vital educational support in the form of nutrition, uniforms, supplies and mandatory school fees for the most vulnerable victims of the HIV/AIDS pandemic - parentless young children.
Another of Anchor's most successful programs is Kidz Clubs. The Kidz Clubs reach and care for over 20,000 needy orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS. International and local Rotary Clubs support children in Kidz Clubs by providing funding for greatly needed materials, as well as nutrition and education.
